Meet at Plan 9

In June 2006, two groups without any experience in organising public protests were formed to initiate a campaign to halt the redevelopment of Bristol city centre green space, Castle Park. One collected signatures online, historian Barb Drummond and others collected signatures in the park, both opposed to any loss of this popular space. Bristol City Council were presented with a petition of 6,000 signatures, which helped put a halt to the development. This talk and walk will discuss the protest and what would have been lost, its aftermath, and the importance of public open space.
