Gisela Motta and Leandro Lima (artists in residence) Discussion - 29 May 2008

Gisela Motta and Leandro Lima, Plan 9 Artists-in-Residence, will be discussing and presenting their current work with members of Plan 9 on Thursday 29 May from 6:00pm. The main discussion will begin around 6.30pm. This is a unique chance to visit and meet the artists who will be presenting and discussing new work for one day only in the main gallery space at Plan 9. It will be a relaxed and informal occasion, with food and drink, and audience members are invited to join in the discussion.

Gisela & Leandro’s recent practice stems from observations of the urban environment which are manipulated to produce hyper-real excursions from and into normality. Humour, intuition and investigation provide a platform for their own scenarios of borrowed incidents, which are captured, altered and represented as unique, wondrous moments.

Gisela Motta and Leandro Lima were born in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1976. Between 1996 and 1999 they studied Visual Art at FAAP in Sao Paulo, and since then have been working in partnership. Since 1998 they have taken part in several collective exhibitions in Brazil and have shown there work aboard at the Centre dart Contemporain of Basse-Normandie, France; Associaciones Debidas; Canary Islands; Aktuelle Video Kunst aus Brasilien at KW Berlin; ZKM, Karlsruhe, Germany. In 2007 they took part in 1st Bienal Fin del Mundo, Ushuaia, Argentina. They have presented solo exhibitions at Vivendo at Galeria Vermelho in Sao Paulo in 2006 and also presented a solo exhibition at HIAP, Finland, after a three month residency.
